Southeastern Regional GK-12 Conference
October 22, 2004
•  Reitz Union, University of Florida  •  Gainesville, Florida
Hosted by SPICE, the University of Florida’s GK-12 program

Conference Attendees

Overview
The purpose of this conference was to gather public school teachers, graduate fellows, and program administrators from across the southeast to share best practices and discuss solutions to common challenges of GK-12 sites. We also aimed to foster networks of neighboring sites, allowing exchange of personnel or materials and coordination of future region-wide activities.

The program started with an evening social on Thursday, October 21. On Friday we started with a plenary session and then broke into discussion groups. A poster session followed lunch, and another round of discussions completed the day’s activities.

We were most interested in how to improve GK-12 programs from the perspective of teachers and graduate fellows. Therefore, discussions were targeted to and led by these participants (not by program administrators). Although anyone was invited to attend any discussion session, some sessions were designed primarily for teachers or primarily for fellows.

All participants left with something tangible. In particular, we facilitated dissemination of lesson plans and inquiry-based activities at the poster session and by transfer of electronic files.
